Saturday October 6th 2012
Tutor: Nicola Jarvis
'Crewel Work in the style of William Morris' - this class will involve working a small botanical-themed sampler typical of the style of the Morris embroideries created in the latter half of the nineteenth century. Worked in silk and wool threads, stitches favoured by Morris will include laid work, long and short, stem stitch, puff couching and French knots.'

Sunday November 25th 2012
Tutor: Sarah Homfray
'Designing for embroidery' - Learn some basic skills to build your confidence in designing your own pieces of embroidery. This is a fun and inspiring day, practicing skills you learnt when you were little but have forgotten! We will cover the basics of learning how to look, mark making, composition, colour theory and more. Go home at the end of the day with your own pieces of artwork. Please note: there is no stitching in this course!
Materials: If you have them bring any drawing materials, eg pencils, charcoal, pens etc. Don't worry if you dont have these, a selection will be provided. If you have a sketchbook to work in you can bring that also.

Saturday March 2nd 2013 CHANGE OF DATE
Tutor: Nicola Jarvis
'Medieval Illuminated Letter' - students will work a personal letter (to be ordered on booking) in the style of lettering seen in manuscripts and bibles of this period. Silk and gold threads will be used to work a variety of stitch techniques to include couching and silk shading.'

'Dog Rose in the Stuart style' - This iconic flower, found on embroidered jackets and boxes of the period, will be worked in silk and metal threads, using raised work and gold techniques, to include needle lace and couching.'

Sunday 12th May 2013 CHANGE OF DATE

'Jewels of the Raj - Indian Shisha Mirror embroidery' - Learn to work shisha mirror stitches and combine them with other indian embroidery stitches to make your own indian inspired mirror embroidery.
Materials cost - Approx £10

''Mrs Delaney's Silk Flowers' - a silk flower typical of the design of Mrs Mary Delaney, a celebrated artist and embroiderer in the eighteenth century, will be worked in silk shading with silk threads on a ground of black silk to produce a striking effect.'
